Finally, the Barney Family Sports Complex is OPEN! Come on down and look at the facility. Drop-in and play some soccer or hockey or volleyball prior to our leagues starting. We want to say thank you for your interest, excitement and most of all patience. We to are very excited to be able to serve our community. As we are now just beginning to understand our capacities, we ask for just a bit more patience as we go through the learning and growing process. For any questions please call or email us. Queen Creek Parade

We all have been patiently waiting for the phone lines to come down and the telephone to be dug up. Today it has happened, and hopefully very soon we will be able to open the doors.

Outside of the Building, Landscaping, Front Desk, Consession Counter, Pro Shop, Bleachers, tile and the floor are being worked on. The concrete is being sand blasted so that it can then be painted.

A True Test

The Barney Family Reunion. If the complex can stand the test of the family it can hold up against anything. Everyone had a good time and there were no casualties.

Trial Run

To ensure the floors were prepared for the Barney Family Reunion we had to put it through some stresss tests. To make sure it would hold up.

The power has been turned on. We have lights and the coolers are working. Everyone worked so hard to get things ready for the Barney Family Reunion!

Glass for the Rinks

The glass for the rinks is being installed. Be careful not to walk into it. There is duct tape on each panel of glass so that does not happen again.

The color of the building makes it feel bigger then the gray it had been up til now. It gives it character and definition.

Scafolding is up to work on the outside of the building, the front is covered, the masonry walls are almost complete and look we have sidewalks!

The precast concrete installed, one end of the building is being closed, and the front of the building is coming along.

The roof is up. Once they started it did not take long. It is amazing how much cooler it is with just the shade of the roof. Come summer time it is going to be a great place to play! Now it is just a question of when.

Block Walls

This is the block wall for the front portion of the building where the shop, offices and classrooms will be.

It may only be white paint and green facia, but now the Sports Complex has some color along with that some character.

Now that the concrete for the sports portion of the building is done, they have started to work on the office, classroom, and pro shop portion of the building.

With the walls complete and the footings on the front portion of the building poured our cement truck total is now 175!

Applying the Steel

First the steel to support the walls was put into place...

Then came the steel for the roof...

Now when you walk onto the site it feels like you are walking into a building.

Lifting the Walls

After a long wait, the walls are up. They started @ 7:30am on Mon. 1/14 and finished at about 2:30pm. It took 7 hours to lift up 42 walls. It was amazing to watch!

Pouring the Walls

They are done! The walls have been poured and are curing. They will sit for a week and then hopefully be raised starting the 10th.

Rain Delay

We needed rain, we wanted rain, we got rain, just not on the site. But, the grading of the site works! All of the rain water ran off itno the retention areas!

Framing the Walls

The walls of the complex will be poured on top of the floor of the complex, where they will sit for a week to cure. Then they will be lifted and set into place , very carefully, by crane.

The Box Culvert

The building of the BFSC's bomb shelter. (aka. the box culvert) It's going to take another 22 cement trucks to complete it. Taking our running total of cement trucks to visit the site to 122!

Lots and lots of MUD!

How many trucks of MUD (aka cement) does it take to pour footings for the complex? 20

How many trucks of MUD does it take to pour the slab for the complex? 80, 40 trucks on Thursday, Nov. 8th to pour half of the slab, the other 40 on Tues., Nov. 13th. They started pouring at 1:00am both days and did not stop until 5:00am.

That's a total of 100 cement trucks, and we have not even started the walls!

The day has finally come! We started moving dirt and preparing the ground for the 8-10 month process of building the sports complex. It has been a long wait for everyone and we are very excited that we can physically see something being done. We never knew how exciting digging a hole could be. That is a lot of dirt!

The Groundbreaking

With the building process ready to begin we held a groundbreaking ceremony. The 9th of August is an important family date; Grandpa's parent's anniversary and his mother's birthday are on the 9th. Family reunions are planned near the 9th, and now this.

On September 25th of 2006 the steel for the sports complex was delivered. We thought the building process was right around the corner!

The Reason for the BFSC

In 1948 Newell A. and Katherine M. Barney turned the desert land of Queen Creek, Az into Barney Farms. For the past 60 years they, their children, grand children, and great grand children, have enjoyed the life the farm has provided. As a memory of this legacy which has been built, the Barney Family is building the Barney Family Sports Complex. After the farm has gone the sports complex will be here to remind everyone what Newell and Katherine have done for the town of Queen Creek and especially their family.
